Moussaka
(Gree)
Moussaka is a popular baked dish in the Balkans and the Middle East, prepared with eggplant, minced meat (or lamb), tomato sauce, and various spices. While the Greek version is layered with béchamel sauce, Turkish cuisine generally omits béchamel sauce and instead cooks it in a pot or oven with fried eggplant. With its Arabic-derived (watered/diluted) name, it comes in both meat and vegetarian versions.
